Light and airy holiday home built from natural materials

In a scenic area between Zealand’s north coast and Denmark’s largest lake, Arresø, Cirkulært Byggeri has built a holiday home that serves as a pilot project for future sustainable homes.

The wooden house stands out among the trees with its natural wooden surfaces, yet frames the location on account of its simplicity and multiple covered outdoor areas. The idea with the house was to build a family/holiday home using sustainable materials and solutions that meet the requirements of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Here, the indoor climate is in focus, which is addressed with natural ventilation via a permeable wooden structure combined with air vents in the window frames.

Architecturally, the house is a mono pitch longhouse with sedum foliage on the roof. The facades are made of Superwood with milled grooves for a varied look. Copper gutters and bronze-anodised window frames add earthy tones to the house as a whole. The large living area is west-facing to ensure an attractive influx of light, while the trees outside provide shade in the summer months.

Simple, beautiful surfaces

Throughout the holiday home, a point has been made of using robust and beautiful materials. Wide plank flooring adds to the experience of being surrounded by nature, while the expansive views of the greenery outside are enhanced by black Troldtekt acoustic panels with discreet v-line grooves on the ceilings to accentuate the room’s length. Here, the choice fell on Troldtekt acoustic panels based on FUTURECEMTM, which have a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to Troldtekt acoustic panels based on traditional cement.

André Bøgelund Jahn is the man behind Cirkulært Byggeri – or Circular Construction – and has many years of experience from the housing and construction industry. He has observed a growing demand for sustainable private homes, and his company works exclusively with sustainable solutions. The fact that many companies can now document that their products are suitable for, for example, Nordic Swan Ecolabelled construction, only makes his job more meaningful.

Troldtekt is registered in the Nordic Swan Ecolabel database of materials for use in Nordic Swan Ecolabelled construction.
