Modern boathouse at Bryggen in Copenhagen

The kayaking club Bryggens Kajakklub and the rowing club Roklubben SAS have joined forces to build a new clubhouse for their members at Islands Brygge on the Copenhagen waterfront. The clubs wanted a more spacious and sustainable clubhouse made of robust materials.

From the top floor of the two-storey building, kayakers and rowers can keep an eye on activities in the harbour basin just outside. The room can be divided into two with a foldable partition wall and is also naturally divided by the double pitched roof. All the more practical facilities such as changing rooms and storage space are found on the ground floor.

Troldtekt was chosen for the ceiling in the large room to adjust the acoustics – but also for its other qualities that fit the building perfectly. Troldtekt acoustic panels are also suitable for outdoor use, and in this project, Troldtekt has been used for a large covered patio where members of the club may find a bit of shelter from the wind and look across the water.

With the environment and sustainability in mind

Krydsrum was the consultant in charge of the entire project, and Logik & Co was the main contractor. Given its strong profile in sustainable building, the construction company was therefore a good match for the project. As Balder Johansen from Logik & Co says: they prefer to build in wood.

The clubhouse has been constructed entirely of wood (apart from the foundations) and even has wood fibre as insulation and gypsum fibreboard – and the Troldtekt ceilings are also mainly made of wood. The façades in spruce have slightly burnt surfaces for a distinctive look. All in all, the clubhouse is a successful and exciting example of a completely sustainable building.
