Dream home with book gallery
An extraordinary bungalow in Schmalfeld boasts not only impressive energy efficiency, but also clever use of space – right up to the ceiling.
The dream of an energy-efficient home in the country has become a reality in Schmalfeld in the district of Segeberg (Schleswig-Holstein). An energy-efficient house has been built on a 1200 m2 site with an air/water heat pump and photovoltaic system on the roof. At first glance it looks like a two-storey building, but in fact it is a single-storey bungalow. The detached home with a low-pitched hipped roof and light timber facade features an impressive, almost full-height window, which offers an unrestricted view of the garden and much more.
Open-plan kitchen and living room with gallery
Large, bright rooms are spread across a total footprint of 184 m2. The heart of the home is the open-plan kitchen and living room with floor-to-ceiling windows on the long walls, leading out onto a patio on each side as well as the garden.
The centrepiece of the open-plan living area is the book gallery, accessed via an open spiral staircase, along with a snug for reading by the ‘television wall’.
Striking contrasts
Elegant wooden flooring concealing underfloor heating has been strikingly paired with wooden windows in anthracite and wooden and dark metal furniture. The lime sand brick and lime plaster walls painted in a light, breathable silicate paint form a striking contrast to the furnishings and create a healthy living environment thanks to the choice of materials. The same is true of the Troldtekt acoustic ceiling with a linear pattern, which also helps achieve the builder’s energy efficiency and sustainability objectives.
