Hotel Koldingfjord
Hotel Koldingfjord enjoys a location which is second to none. Situated near Kolding in Denmark, these beautiful Baroque buildings are surrounded by forest with uninterrupted views across water.
From 1911 to 1960, the place served as a sanatorium for children suffering from tuberculosis and therefore was an important facility in the battle against this widespread infectious disease. Following extensive renovation, it opened in 1990 as a modern hotel and conference centre.
The new extension behind the main building – which now houses the Magnolia and Beech Rooms – was originally a sports hall and boiler room. Arkitema Architects were responsible for this addition which has doubled the capacity of the two rooms. As a result, up to 250 conference guests can now be accommodated in a stunning facility which makes Hotel Koldingfjord one of the best conference hotels in Denmark.
The extension has been designed to blend in with the existing buildings which are listed. Project architect Rolf Kjær MAA says, “We strove to create a modern yet simple look which harmonises with the rest of the hotel. For example, the facades and roof are clad in copper and black zinc. These materials age and patinate well and were chosen to match the numerous copper spires and other original metalwork on Koldingfjord.”
The two rooms are identical, both being extremely light and airy with white walls and ceilings. They have been equipped to provide the very best facilities for conferences. In a matter of seconds, they can be blacked out for presenting various AV media. As Rolf Kjær says, “Obviously, good acoustics are essential in a modern conference centre which is why Troldtekt with integrated lighting was specified because of its outstanding acoustic properties.” Adjoining the south side are glass-covered orangeries with lounge areas.
