The diplomatic ceiling

Denmark’s consulate and trade office in Sydney Australia has moved to a stunning new location overlooking the famous Harbour bridge.

Tegnestuen Mejeriet, based in Denmark, was commissioned to be both the architect and project manager. Apart from a site visit and discussion with the Consul and his employees and the security department, this involved drafting an acceptable layout for about 260 sqm and designing a dramatic but simple interior with clean, sharp lines and an aura of efficiency.

At the same time, the intention with the layout and refurbishment of the new offices was to create a design which would exhibit a heavy touch of Danish/Nordic architecture. This meant an open office with large areas of glass walls together with flooring which had a mix of Danish carpets and wood (oak). 

The architects then decided that the ideal way to tie the whole interior together was to specify a Troldtekt ceiling. This solution also meant that the ceiling’s high performance acoustic qualities would ensure that echo and noise reverberation from the hard surfaces would be dramatically reduced. Consequently, grey Troldtekt panels in ultrafine structure were installed. At the same time the ceiling underlines the Danish/Nordic look which is immediately apparent when entering the new Danish consulate and trade office.
