New life for egg packing centre
Outside the entrance, a brass sign reads, "An excellent example of the potential of creatively recycling buildings and urban environments. A mix of preservation, low-impact recycling and upcycling helps to create a new workplace with a special atmosphere and character that shows how value-creating recycling can be.
The historic building in the centre of Randers, which was once built as an egg packing centre, has changed function several times since it was all about eggs. The three floors are now attractive office spaces with an elegant interior design. Jakob Keller, co-owner of engineering firm Reeholm og Bredahl, bought the property, and the firm uses the top floor for itself.
The floors have had different functions, and there was a desire to preserve traces of both the older and more recent history of the building. Nevertheless, a harmonious connection has been created between the floors, as Bruno Jakobsen Design was responsible for the architectural transformation and an interior design that accommodates both history and contemporary workplace requirements.
Good acoustics are recycled
Some of the requirements were soul and charm, and the building renovation was so successful that it has been awarded an architecture prize. In exemplary fashion, the old building was peeled back to its original floors and walls. At the e-commerce agency Grafikr, recycled Troldtekt ceilings are painted white and black, respectively. The graphic look is softened by an interior with wood, curtains and lounge furniture. The acoustic absorption is the same and especially necessary with the old concrete floors.
On the ground floor, a large room has been converted into a canteen and function room, where the black, recycled Troldtekt ceilings also play an important role. New Troldtekt v-line ceilings are installed in the building's bathrooms, which blend in nicely with the delicate decor. Other fine examples of recycling in Æggepakkeriet are lamps and mirrors that have found new places in the old building.
Æggepakkeriet is an industrial building with old loading doors and concrete floors, but also has a modern, precise design that adds human scale.
