Dining with a view
At the five-star Marriott Hotel in central Copenhagen, the restaurant’s interior design has been upgraded to reflect contemporary preferences for materials and colours and, not least, effective acoustics.
While Kalvebod Brygge teems with urban life and traffic, on the Marriott Hotel's waterside, all is peace and quiet. As part of its commission, Urban Agency was tasked with designing the large restaurant area, which also extends out onto the terraces facing the water. With a steady hand, a line cuts through the interior design in order to fufil many practical requirements while simultaneously expressing an effortless elegance. The inspiration was to move closer to the water, which is one of the hallmarks of Copenhagen.
The restaurant serves breakfast to hotel guests every morning, and later lunch and an a la carte dinner are served to both hotel guests and outside visitors. Large, soft curtains help create different sections depending on the given day and any social functions.
Multi-purpose ceiling
Nature can be said to be a recurring element and motif in the dining area. Wood is used for much of the furniture combined with copper and seagrass on wall surfaces. The sea inspired the blue colour in the interior design, and the lines in the ceilings point towards the water outside the windows. Acoustics are very important in a large, open-plan restaurant, and the architects have used all surfaces for sound absorption, including seagrass, curtains, floors and, not least, ceilings.
Troldtekt line Plus based on FUTURECEM is extra sound-absorbent. In this case, it has been painted in a custom colour that has both the warmth and weight that the room needs. The lines follow the ceiling’s three levels, which gradually merge in the direction of the facade. Access panels integrated in the ceiling provide access for technical adjustments. The ceiling plays an important role as the element that creates a calm uniformity, which is nicely offset by furniture in bright colours and well-composed lighting.
