The House of food culture

The House of Food Culture at Gudhjem Denmark is a new and high profile meeting place where the focus is entirely on food and all its colourful diversity.

The venue has been praised extensively for its sensitive and interesting architecture designed by Entasis arkitekter. It has been conceived with a high degree of flexibility and has already demonstrated its suitability for hosting many different kinds of events.

The building is situated opposite Melstedgaard, a well-preserved timber-frame farmhouse dating from the 17th century. It is a sleek structure, also built of wood, and in many ways a modern interpretation of its timber-framed neighbour. Even the pitch of the roof mirrors that of the old farmhouse. Characterised by strong lines and detailing, the design is nevertheless extremely sensitive to its environment, harmonising naturally with the other buildings around.

In fact, wood is the recurring material throughout the House of Food Culture, from the main structural elements to the facades and roof. Inside, it features a vaulted ceiling and an exposed timber frame roof construction. The open loft area adds atmosphere and a sense of space but also the right acoustics because the entire ceiling is clad with Troldtekt acoustic panels. At the same time, the rustic surface of these panels contrasts well with the smooth, red flooring.
