Imposing new nursery building on a mountainside

In Fulpmes, Austria, ARGE Tabernig-Zierl Architektur has created an architectural eye-catcher with lots of wood and glass, where children and adults feel really at home.

Kindergarten Fulpmes, Austria

With many leisure activities and fantastic Alpine panoramas, the 35-kilometre Stubaital in Austria is a popular destination for excursions. Surrounded by glaciers and more than 100 three thousand metre peaks, it is home to the market community of Fulpmes. Fulpmes is an attractive place to live, especially for families, and only around 15 kilometres from the Tyrolean capital Innsbruck. And they are delighted with the new modern nursery, where around 140 boys and girls can develop individually in a semi-open care concept.

Two buildings on a demanding mountainside

ARGE Tabernig-Zierl Architektur has built an attractive new building on a demanding mountainside, which successfully blends into the surroundings with its light wooden facade, large window areas and visually impressive overhangs.

The building consists of two two-storey structures connected to each other by a single-storey, glazed wing and arranged next to or on a concrete base. This made it possible to make optimum use of the slope of the property and to create outdoor and play areas at ground level.

Plenty of light and light wood

Thanks to generous roof openings and many large window areas, the rooms inside are flooded with light and offer a wide range of possible uses thanks to various partitions and cutouts.

While the window frames on the outside are dark and stand out strikingly from the wooden facade, light wood was used on the inside and, combined with the light floors as well as the furniture and stairs made of natural wood, create a calm, natural and welcoming atmosphere. Coloured pictures and decorative elements stand out particularly well on the simple concrete walls.

The harmonious overall design is rounded off by the large round lights mounted on the ceiling as well as the light Troldtekt acoustic panels, which significantly improve the sense of wellbeing in day-to-day nursery activities with their sound-absorbing properties.
