Commercial building turned into ‘Fidibus’ nursery
When renovating an old commercial building into a state-of-the-art facility for up to 120 boys and girls in Berlin’s district of Reinickendorf, the original character of the old carpenter’s workshop was integrated into the project.
High ceilings, large windows and generous subdivisions of the space create ideal conditions for children and nursery teachers. The ground floor and the top floor feature four large group rooms with washrooms, play areas and sports areas, cupboards and sufficient office space. The ‘Fidibus’ nursery is fully accessible. On its creatively designed grounds, it offers green play areas with a playset, a sandbox, a herb garden and a barefoot path.
The interior, with its preserved historic features such as glazed ceramic tiles, are colourful, bright and airy. The large rooms are fitted with Troldtekt acoustic panels to ensure good acoustics. The ceiling panels made of wood and cement contribute to a healthy room climate and provide audible acoustic comfort in the newly created rooms.
The building project was financed by private funds of the investor and state subsidies.
