New attraction for the ‘Town below the Castle’

Thanks to the prominent location of the ruins of Husen Castle perched above Hausach, the small town in the Kinzigtal valley in the Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg is also known as the ‘Town below the Castle’. Located in the sunny southwest of Germany, the region around Hausach is a popular holiday destination.

The Kinzigtal pool has become a new attraction for tourists and locals alike. The year-round swimming pool with an outdoor pool, indoor pool and sauna area is integrated into an extensive park landscape, meets the most modern standards and promises the utmost bathing and leisure fun.

The Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects also recognises that the new building amounts to more than just a special added benefit for visitors. And so, shortly after completion, the project was honoured with a prize as part of the Exemplary Construction awards in the County of Ortenau. The jury based its decision, among other things, on the criteria of the external design, dimensions and proportions of the building, the design of the interior space and layout, as well as on expediency, the appropriateness of means and materials, structural integrity, inclusion in and management of the urban context and the environment.

The outdoor pool area consists of a 25-metre sports pool, a non-swimmer’s area, a diving pool and a spacious water playground for the youngest visitors. The light-flooded indoor hall features a swimming pool and a children’s pool with a toddler area, which includes a water course, a water fountain and an elephant-shaped slide for splashingly good play fun! From the recreation and health pool, which has a water temperature of 34 degrees, visitors can move to the outdoor pool, which can be used all year round. The ample aquatic fun is complemented by a panoramic sauna and a sanarium (medium-heat sauna) with colour lighting.

Acoustic ceiling panels from Troldtekt to match the large floor tiles emphasise the feel-good atmosphere in the pool area. As architect Gunnar Lehmann explained, the white cement-bonded wood wool panels offer particularly good acoustic values, have a more elegant look than smooth ceiling panels and fit perfectly into the overall ensemble. In addition to their design function, the Troldtekt acoustic panels, which are suitable for wet room use, are particularly noteworthy for their reverberation-reducing effect.
